  1. Quran Memorization helps us in gaining closeness to Allah SWT and become His chosen ones!

Our sole purpose on this earth is to do lots of Ibadah, and good deeds, and attain our place in Jannah by pleasing Allah SWT. Memorizing the Quran helps us achieve our eternal goal and brings lots of ease into our worldly life. When we are close to Allah, we understand his plans better, we cope with difficult situations with Tawakkul, and come out victorious in this life and Hereafter.

Anas ibn Malik reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace, and blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, Allah has His people among humanity.” They said, “O Messenger of Allah, who are they?” The Prophet said, “They are the people of the Quran, the people of Allah and His chosen ones.” (Sunan Ibn Mājah, 215)

Can we even imagine how great this beautiful hadith is? It surely motivates us to memorize the Quran and recite it as often as we can. And also follow it with all our hearts.

  • Memorization of the Quran makes us gain more and more rewards!

Narrated Muhammad bin Ka’b Al-Qurazi:

“I heard ‘Abdullah bin Mas’ud said: ‘The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “[Whoever recites a letter] from Allah’s Book, then he receives the reward from it, and the reward of ten the like of it. I do not say that Alif Lam Mim is a letter, but Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter and Mim is a letter.” (Jamiat Tirmidhi: 3158)

Such is the reward for recitation. Imagine the reward when you are memorizing the Quran! Huge, isn’t it? So never step back from memorizing it as it brings lots of rewards for us and helps us in fulfilling our goals.

  • Memorization of the Quran makes us closer to Jannah

Our ultimate goal is to make a place for us and our near and dear ones in Jannah. And when we recite the Quran, we save ourselves from Hellfire and become closer to attaining Jannah. When we ponder upon the Quran and memorize it, we automatically feel to gain guidance through it and pave our way to Jannah.

Abdullah ibn Amr ibn Al-Aas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) said:

The one who was devoted to the Quran will be told [on the Day of Resurrection] ‘Recite [the Quran] and ascend [in ranks] as you used to recite when you were in the world. Your rank will be the last verse you recite.” ( Abu Dawud, Book 9: 11)

  • Memorization of the Quran makes it intercedes for us on the Day of Judgement  and helps us in attaining the Shade of Allah

The Day of Judgement will not be easy. The scorching heat and the fear will take upon all of us. A mother will not recognize her children nor will children recognize their parents.

And just imagine if someone or something intercedes for us on that Final Day. Such are the blessings we will get by reciting the Book of Allah!

Abu Umamah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying, “Read the Qur’an, for it will come as an intercessor for its reciters on the Day of Resurrection.” [Muslim].

(Riyad as-Salihin 991)

Memorization of the Quran can be done at any time in our lives. But memorizing it early brings more benefits to us.

‏ Abu Huraira reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) had said:

Seven are (the persons) whom Allah would give protection with His Shade on the Day when there would be no shade but that of Him (i.e. on the Day of Judgment, and they are): a just ruler, a youth who grew up with the worship of Allah; a person whose heart is attached to the mosques; two persons who love and meet each other and depart from each other for the sake of Allah; a man whom a beautiful woman of high rank seduces (for illicit relation), but he (rejects this offer by saying):” I fear Allah”; a person who gives charity and conceals it (to such an extent) that the right-hand does not know what the left has given: and a person who remembered Allah in privacy and his eyes shed tears. (Sahih Muslim 1031; Book 12, Hadith 117 )

Mu’adh al-Juhani reported the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) as saying:

If anyone recites the Qur’an and acts according to its content, on the Day of Judgement his parents will be given to wear a crown whose light is better than the light of the sun in the dwellings of this world if it were among you. So what do you think of him who acts according to this? (Sunan Abi Dawud 1453)
